Peter L. Borchelt received his doctorate in comparative psychology/animal behavior from Michigan State University in 1973. He held a post-doctoral Fellowship in the Department of Animal Behavior at The American Museum of Natural History from 1972-1974. He taught as Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Fordham University from 1974 - 1978. Since 1978, as Attending Staff at The Animal Medical Center in New York City and in his private practice, Animal Behavior Consultant, Brooklyn, New York, he has helped many thousands of pet owners prevent and solve behavior problems in dogs, cats and other animals. In 1991, he was one of the first Applied Animal Behaviorists certified by the Animal Behavior Society. Dr. Borchelt has consulted and testified frequently on dog bite, injury and negligence cases and also building/landlord disputes and has appeared as an expert witness in both civil and criminal cases throughout the US. He continues to work on research projects for the well being of pets and has conducted numerous research and development projects for various pet related companies. He patented two training aids to help control pet behavior problems. He has published over 75 articles and chapters in a variety of animal behavior and veterinary journals and has co-edited five books of topics in applied animal behavior. Dr. Borchelt has lectured throughout the United States and Europe and been seen and heard on many major television and radio stations on various topics of pet behavior. He has been featured on numerous occasions in major newspapers and magazines. In 2002, Dr. Borchelt was described as the best animal behaviorist in the city by New York Magazine Services: |
