Dr. Shyan-Norwalt received her MS at the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1980 and her Ph.D. at the University of Hawaii in Experimental Psychology in 1985. A former college professor, she taught two years at South West Texas State University and 13 years at Butler University in Indianapolis. She taught Learning Theory, Experimental Psychology, Research Methodology, Cognition, Intro. Psych, and Honors Seminars. Her research areas include the human-animal bond, dog aggression, cat behavior, animal enrichment, elephant social behavior, memory, and vision, monkey cognition, dolphin cognition, and captive dolphin environmental preferences. She publishes in professional journals, presents research papers and seminars at national scientific, animal welfare, and shelter conferences, and has been an invited speaker at veterinary colleges. She has been interviewed for TV, magazine, and newspaper, featured in a BBC/PBS Discover documentary, and three episodes of “At the Zoo” (a syndicated educational TV program). Dr. Shyan-Norwalt has been certified by the Animal Behavior Society since 1993, and is an affiliate member of the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. Services: |
